Our estate protects and supports each piece of its flora and fauna with the utmost care, ensuring that no external species are introduced into it so as to maintain its original natural equilibrium
This rigorous approach aims at ensuring that Petra Niedda remains a sanctuary for the native species and contributes to the preservation of the natural heritage of the island
Petra Niedda is a unique place where agriculture and pastoral activities have always been in perfect harmony with the surrounding nature:
• Our olive groves and vineyards are grown with total respect for the environment
• No pesticides, herbicides, or synthetic fertilizers were ever used on the estate
• We do not plough our groves and vineyards intensively and rather ensure that the grass and fallen foliage blanket the soil, which encourages moisture retention and maximises biodiversity
• Our donkeys and goats graze around, contributing to create natural fertiliser, aerate the soil, reduce weeds and clean out the forest undergrowth
• Our bees pollinate the native plants around. They are instrumental in maintaining the biodiversity of the area and provide delicious honey
• The scrub and forests surrounding our olive groves and vineyards provide habitat for beneficial organisms, shield livestock and crops from wind and heath, slow runoff waters, avoid erosion and participate to water quality.
